A Summer of Eating (Part 1: The Vermonster)

18 Jul

It seems that this summer is the summer of goals. In addition to our bucket list, we have taken on another challenge: extreme eating. It all started a few weeks ago, right on Eddie’s birthday, when Eddie and Sera decided to eat both a KFC Double Down and a BK Bacon Sundae. I had the (unfortunate?) privilege of watching them complete this task. Since that day, we have all been on the lookout for outrageous foods, both in regards to content and quantity.

A few weeks later, we all received an invitation to an event hosted by Sera, asking us to take on the Vermonster at a Ben & Jerry’s in University City…

THE TASK: The Ben & Jerry’s Vermonster

THE DATE: July 5th

THE PARTICIPANTS: Aileen (kind of), Alli, Awjin, Chris, Lauren, Robbie, Roxanne, Sera, Seth, Sinan, and Steven.

THE BREAKDOWN: Two teams will each take on the Vermonster. (For those of you not familiar with a Vermonster, it is a bucket of 20 scoops of ice cream, 4 bananas, 4 ladles of hot fudge, 3 cookies, 1 brownie, 10 scoops of toppings, and whipped cream. All in all, it totals to, about, 14,000 calories. But, keep in mind, that Alli and I- two Ben & Jerry’s employees- were making these… so obviously we over-scooped and gave them much, much more than the standard amount.) The team that eats the sundae the fastest wins. The losing team must run laps around the park across from the shop.

THE EATS: The flavors we used ranged from Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough to Chunky Monkey to Bonaroo Buzz. In total, we used 11 flavors of ice cream, far too many cookies, and cleaned the shop out of their whipped cream.

And here’s how it went:

Back in my natural habitat.

The participants psyching themselves up. Look at those faces. Those are the faces of some future champions.

Team Lactose Tolerants (Roxanne, Sinan, Alli, Seth, and Awjin)

The Americone Dream Team (Sera, Steven, Lauren, Robbie, and Chris)

There’s a reason that it’s called the Vermonster…

The Americone Dream Team asked for a second round of spoons…. double duty intense.

Thankfully, I just had to watch and take photos… but I was definitely rooting for the Americone Dream Team.

And after a very short 10 minutes and 30 seconds, the Americone Dream Team wins!

What remained of the losing team’s bucket.

Champs.

THE RESULTS: The Americone Dream Team won. Oh, and did I mention that three of the members of the winning team are lactose intolerant?

The Vermonster was a great kickoff to our official journey of copious eating.

Happy Wednesday,

Aileen
